Why Borneo?
It is an extraordinary place of biodiversity. Plants and animals that we barely know the scientific name and little (or nothing) of their ecology. Plants of unusual form, from lowland forest, peat swamp forest, up to the alpine vegetation.
In fact, you have to remember that Borneo is not a flat and homogeneous island. It has a central mountain chain with the terminal peak of the majestic Mount Kinabalu. This alpine mountain is the only one surpassing 4000 meters among the high picks, except the Himalaya and the central mountain chain of Papua Nuova Guinea.
Seven years have passed since I moved to this fascinating island. I have continued my research started at the PhD level. Starting to identify the species from this island has, clearly, raised further questions. Work that I have continued daily with motivation and perseverance.
Despite this beautiful island being rather far from Italy, we can observe similarity at some botanical level between the two countries. This similarity can be drawn at the genus level… Do not be afraid, will explain later, and in better way the terms and the similarity.
